In John we are told the story of a woman who was caught in adultery. She was brought to Jesus for punishment, but Jesus told the teachers of religious law who brought her “Let the one who has never sinned throw the first stone.” After this, all of her accusers left leaving only Jesus and the woman.
Friend, have you ever been that woman (Or man)? I think we all have. We all are guilty of sinning because we’re human, we all have been condemned by the world, and we all have been forgiven by Jesus.
When a Christian sins, we have the promise of forgiveness by Jesus. No matter what we have done and no matter who condemns us, we will always have the ability to go before Jesus and lay down our sins. He will pick them up and cast them away. They will never be remembered or mentioned again. If you are resting in the arms of Jesus, you never have to worry about being hit with those stones. Jesus protects you from all condemnation and he will never let you be crushed by the cruel world.
Reflect
1. Read this story in John 8:1-11.
2. Imagine what this woman was feeling initially.
3. How do you think she was feeling after Jesus told her that she was forgiven?
Pray with me
Lord, thank you for protecting me from the stones that the world constantly tries to crush me with. I thank you that you forgive my sins and that you show me a better way to live. Forgive my accusers for they do not know what they do. Please give me the comfort I seek, and help me to rest peacefully in your arms.
Amen
